The influenza (flu) season is gradually approaching. Therefore, we need to be aware of the symptoms and how it can be differentiated from the COVID-19 symptoms. They are both respiratory illnesses but caused by different viruses. Affected individuals can be asymptomatic, have very mild symptoms, or even a serious one that could lead to death especially in people over 65, new born babies and people with chronic illnesses.\There is a possibility that COVID-19 have been around during the flu season in 2019. However, it was not common in the United States at that time. The incidence of COVID-19 increased in the United States around March 2020 towards the end of the flu season. This means that they have very similar symptoms, and you need to be able to differentiate them by getting familiar with the symptoms, or getting tested.

If COVID-19 eventually becomes the new normal, then we have to be on top of our game as individuals.

Your visits to the primary care doctor for cold or flu symptoms might include getting tested for both flu and COVID-19 based on your presenting symptoms.
